5,000 year old chewing gum discovered in Finland
5,000 year old chewing gum discovered in Kierikki, Yli-Li, Finland http://news.scotsman.com/international.cfm?id=1316032007 http://abc.net.au/science/news/stories/2007/2010771.htm A Stone Age piece of chewing gum, one of the oldest discovered, has been found by an archaeology student in Finland. The 5000-year-old glob still bears tooth impressions, was made from birch bark tar and looked "just like a dirty piece of modern chewing gum", Sarah Pickin told The Scotsman newspaper. "I was also worried it could have been a bit of fossilized poo," she adds.

Chewing gum. Fossilized poo. Who can tell the difference? *shrug*

It's actually a fairly common local find. But no doubt exotic to some. ;) At the same dig they also found evidence of South Baltic amber, evidence of trade (considered by archeologists to be more significant - sorry).

Why can't you people be more careful with your left-over birch-bark chewing gum?

Miisa- 08-22-2007

We still make chewing gum out of birch sap, you know. Tooth-friendly and everything.

Nice way to avoid my actual point.

Isn't it just?

JoeP- 08-22-2007

I think if you spent less time avoiding important questions and more actually clearing up the place, this kind of thing wouldn't happen so much.

Where is the webcam? Dammit!

I switched it off. You have better things to do.
