Anchor down the kids, storm coming.
Funny thing is, it's actually still quite calm over here. But apparently it's gonna get seriously windy during the evening. I if understand people who experience tornado's now and then will be laughing their heads off, but what do you do. http://www.meteoalarm.eu/default.asp?lang=EN Of course, my poor little country will have to bear the brunt again. Oh well, at least we're protected by solid dikes and nifty gadgets and coastal dunes

There is no Slovakia on that map, what sort of weather warning system is that??! Hmph! And where's Australia?

juju- 11-08-2007

It's become quite windy here, and has just started to rain. I'm really surprised at the Netherlands, I would have thought they'd be more sheltered than Britain or Ireland - where is the storm coming from?

Fr. Gruesome- 11-08-2007

And where's Australia? Search me, squire.

juju- 11-08-2007

Actually, I heard a staggering fact the other day - Britain gets more tornadoes than any other nation on Earth, including the US. http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/hottopics/naturaldisasters/hurricanes.shtml The American ones are just much bigger, naturally.

Fr. Gruesome- 11-08-2007

Quantity not quality eh? Who's to say the American ones are better, eh? Probably some phony research institution funded by the oil industry, e.g. George Dubbya ...

Alan- 11-08-2007

Father ! DG ! This is no time for you to be messing about on pooters. Now is the time for all good Dutchmen to rush out and stick their fingers in Dykes. ( she may not like it but she'll just have to show some of the traditional Dutch tolerance )

Fr. Gruesome- 11-08-2007

I trust you mean dijk - I'll not tolerate any innuendo, I have a walking stick and I'm not afraid to point it at you!

It's become quite windy here, and has just started to rain. I'm really surprised at the Netherlands, I would have thought they'd be more sheltered than Britain or Ireland - where is the storm coming from? From the North West, meaning we get the whole North Sea coming this way. :D If it was coming form the south west, we'd be getting all the water from the English Channel this way. But it's also spring tide, meaning the sea is already higher then usual. Combined with strong winds, you get a lot of incoming water. We're kinda screwed both ways. :) In 1953, the combination of spring tide and north western storm caused much of the dutch province of Zeeland to flood after dikes gave way before the rising water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Sea_flood_of_1953

Now is the time for all good Dutchmen to rush out and stick their fingers in Dykes. Now now Alan. Only the Dutch youngsters are allowed to do that: Legend of Hans(je) Brinker Where I'll be sticking my fingers is non of your business. Probably into my vegetables tonight, to check if they're properly warmed up. It does lack a certain amount of excitement, but what do you do?

Jools- 11-08-2007

Wind and rain here. Have put garden umbrella in the shed, just in case.

Watser?- 11-08-2007

It's barely windy. Apres nous le déluge. Wtf is a pricket?

raspberrybullets- 11-08-2007

And where's Australia? Search me, squire. I thought you didn't approve of any innuendo. :P

Fr. Gruesome- 11-08-2007

I don't approve of innuendo but that does not necessarily prevent me from using it as a method of self-mortification - 'take that Pride! How d'ya like that then' etc. Search me, Squire is a quaint old expression from the place where I grew up meaning, 'I really am unable to respond to your question, Old Man'.

As that great philosopher Marx (Groucho) once said, "Love flies out the door when money comes innuendo."
