Icelanders
have just been ranked the happiest people on earth by European Happy Planet Index.
Well, what a surprise. They've got Bjork and they've got geysers, I suppose.....

Well, if they've go Bjork, then they've got
giant, french-kissing, dancing cats, so what's not to be happy about!

I don't like Bjork and I hate the cold. I think that place could just about be hell for me.

I don't think Björk lives there anymore.
A special thing is that you look people up by their first name, not their last name (usually only a patronym).
They've got the Icelandic sagas. Now they also got authors of detective novels like Arnaldur Indridason.
I would like to go to Iceland someday but it is more expensive than to go to the other Nordic countries.

Well, you could sit around in one of their hot springs then. :)

One night in a bar in Prague I was told by a drunken viking ( I may also have been drunk at the time  ) that Iceland was mostly green and Greenland was mostly ice.
He said it was to done that way to confuse the British.

IIRC the naming of Greenland was a deliberate piece of propaganda BS to encourage settlers. :)

No, I love Iceland, it`s such a great country :D not like many thinks. They have a lot of stone landscape (vulcanic stones), but there are also a lot of green grass and valleys! amazing landscape. And the folks there are friendly. Because it is a island, Iceland has mild winters and cool summers, but a lot of wind then, but I really like the wind
I recommend to travell to Iceland one time in your life!

Yes, partially, but at the time it was settled, the south-western portion was, in fact, suitable for agriculture and settlement. It was only during the second quarter of the second millenium AD that the ice extended to pretty much the whole country.
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but it's late and I am bored :)

5 am counts as early imo, even if you stayed up. :)
I'd like to see Iceland, just to have seen it at the very least.

Well I admit, having a dunk in one of those springs would be pretty nifty. But I sure don't want to live there. I think Dutchland happiness must have gone up a lot recently.

And global warming is making Greenland green again. Now they can grow broccoli there for the first time!
Residents of Brattahlid raised livestock until temperatures plunged dramatically in the 14th century, causing a mini-ice age.

As we're behind the Continent - in time, as in so many other ways ;) - it was just after 4 a.m., and that's still late IMO

I heard from someone who stationed in Iceland for a while that it was one of the best assignments he'd had.
