That's dreadful, Sointu. It makes you wonder if killing people is a meme, and that the only way to stop it is to delay reporting the incident for several years.
I'm sure there is nothing peculiar about the Finnish people. It could have happened anywhere but why does it happen at all?
The truth is - like said in the CNN webpage - that finns have a lot of guns because of hunting. The thing is, those are shotguns and rifles, not handguns. Handguns are the ones that have been used in these schoolshootings. :(
I don't know how long I have the urge to come to work anymore. What if someone comes here tomorrow and starts shooting people?!
I just saw a BBC news alert about this and came straight here. Horrible.
It could happen anywhere, even in Britain without the culture of gun ownership. And I doubt the stereotyped gloominess of the Finns has anything to do with it. It only takes one madman to do something like this.
Montreal, my home town, has been the site of 3 fatal school shootings in the last 20 years or so, in spite of very stringent gun control laws. Why in Montreal? Who knows.... It's not a particularly violent place. :(

It just feels so unreal. The police suspects this guy was copying last years shooter. No doubt there will be more of these. :( We have a quiet moment at school tomorrow and a staff meeting in the morning to deside on the after crisis management, like if the students want to talk and so on. I still have the candle in the library from last year, I guess I'll light it in the morning and just see how the day goes.
IThink these things do feed off each other, yeah. People seem to think that they'll get a 'blaze of glory' or something .. make international headlines. And unfortunately, they DO. But it can't just not be reported.. that wouldn't work either.
Apart from an initial summary, reporting a serious crime is delayed until after the trial so that the accused get a fair trial.
In the same way, the report of an incident such as this could be delayed for two years or so, apart from an initial summary. It may not make such interesting reading but it would help prevent carbon copies.
Maybe in the UK it is, that isn't the case in the States.
