Schengen expandsSince this is the EuropeForum, I might as well add this:
"Celebrations have been held after midnight to mark nine new states joining a European border-free zone."

Hooray! Me is Schengen now too! :D
Now I look even more chocolatey. :rasp:
Cool. I'm not sure if I'm mixing up border crossings, but I think I remember having to stop before we could go into either germany or belgium. That was a very little DG observing life from the the backseat though. :)
Cool. I'd heard nothing of this 'til now, but it sounds good. Just like going from state to state in the US (except we all speak the same language :P).
I've been to Schengen, a nice little dorp in the drielanderecke, appropriately I was there on a twinning visit. I have been stopped on the Belgian/French border quite recently, but that was the French CRS trying to justify their inflated budget by looking for terrorists (=English Day Trippers with dark skin - or anybody from Algeria for old times' sake).
My parents had a christmas card from their Czech friends, who wrote about how they could travel around Europe now without having to show their passports. They didn't really understood that remark until RB and I came by today and remembered this post. :D
